The author discusses growing sugar beet which provided his farm regular high yields and profit. However, he notes that the quality of seed in 2013 is well below what the growers expected, with some fields only having 65-70 percent germination. He claims that growers that used state-of-the-art drills to get the seed in the ground in almost any condition ended up with the poorest seed emergence.
