Abstract: The article offers the statement of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regarding manufactured fluorescent ballasts before 1979 which may contain polychlorinated biphenyls (PCB) and may pose health risks. The EPA says that the PCBs in such ballasts would be found in the capacitor and internal electrical components. The agency adds that the hazard can be worsened by mishandling by personnel who are not aware of the presence of PCBs in the lighting ballasts.
