The author discusses the field of environmental archaeology in northeast China including the study of environmental changes and human responses to these changes. He discusses the Eastern and Western approach to this research and identifies shortcomings such as the conservative nature of Chinese archaeology, lack of cooperation among disciplines and simplistic research methodologies.
