Abstract

This essay focuses on the writing and publication of Douglas Coupland's novel "Generation X: Tales for an Accelerated Culture," which was first published in 1991 and describes the social attitudes of a generation of North Americans. The author describes how Coupland initially sold this book to his publisher, St. Martin's Press, as a work of nonfiction. Also discussed are the book's design, contemporary reviews of "Generation X," and Coupland's literary career since its publication.
