Abstract

A communication is presented in which the editor of the journal discusses the significance of the study of history and British education secretary Michael Gove's proposals for education reform as of May 2013. The article also discusses the 1990 book "The History Debate," published by the journal, and its illustration of the debates among historians concerning history curricula. It also discusses the thoughts of history scholar and teacher William Lamont, the contribution of history teachers to the debate concerning Gove's proposals, and the importance of history teachers in fostering interest in history.
