Abstract
- A critique is presented of Roman rhetorician Seneca the Elder's works "Controversiae" and "Suasoriae," focusing on the intertextual relations of legal metaphors and Seneca's references to Latin poets Ovid and Virgil. The relationships between author, reader, and text are discussed, as well as the history of literary allusions. The difference between imitation and plagiarism is discussed, as well as legal definitions of ownership and private property.
