Abstract

The article discusses the deindustrialization in Canada as bitumen resource exports through exchange rate caused the decline in Canadian manufacturing export similar to the so-called Dutch disease problem of the Netherlands. In the case of Canada, it says, there are more energy exports making reallocating of real inputs harder, globalization cuasing Canadian exports displacement and the income elasticity of demand. It also notes appreciation of the Canadian dollar and high energy exports.
