Abstract

Major depression is one of the most frequently seen psychiatric disorders. Classical antidepressant treatments might be insufficient in treating all symptoms of of depression. Therefore, antidepressant treatments which work through different mechanisms have been developed. One of these therapies is agomelatine. Agomelatine is a drug which is a synthetic analogue of melatonin hormone. Melatonin works by stimulating the activities of MT1 and MT2 receptors and inhibiting the activity of serotonin 5HT2C receptor. It is recommended to be cautious in patients taking agomelatine in terms of liver enzyme elevation. In this case report, agomelatine-induced elevation of liver enzymes and the treatment process will be presented. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
