Abstract

The authors present a study of the tribological properties of short carbon/carbon nanotube (CNT)/PA6 hybrid composites. Their specific wear rate and the coefficient of friction were examined as a function of sliding time and distance. In addition, the hybrid composites with varying CNT volume ratio were tested to assess hybrid effects. It was found that the friction and wear rate decreased with sliding distance and then leveled off under dry sliding conditions, showing the effective reinforcing effect of CNT. Worn surfaces were observed by scanning electron microscope and the wear process was governed by the plastic deformation and mechanical microploughing. [ABSTRACT FROM PUBLISHER]
