A major event for new tuberculosis vaccines.

The authors discuss a study led by Michele Tameris and colleagues and published by "Lancet" online on February 4, 2013 and in the March 23, 2013 issue regarding a phase 2b trial of a tuberculosis vaccine in infants in South Africa. The vaccine, a modified Vaccinia virus Ankara expressing antigen 85A, is described. The lack of evidence of the vaccine's efficacy in terms of preventing tuberculosis or infection with Mycobacterium tuberculosis is also mentioned.
