Abstract

The author discusses how tragedies such as the December 2012 mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut can affirm one's religious faith. He describes how Christians must oppose evil and suffering while praying that God's will be done on earth as in heaven. It is argued that God chooses to respond to people's pain not by making suffering and evil disappear, but by being with them and absorbing their negative experiences.
