Abstract
- Today's multicultural societies are the result of a lengthy modernization process. The consequences of this process in social structures and individual personalities have been widely analyzed from many disciplines, including philosophy, politics, law and sociology. This paper tries to show, first, the numerous connecting points that exist between many classic authors and many other scholars in this field, the paradigmatic scholar being Charles Taylor. In addition, it will uncover some socio-cultural consequences -such as increased violence in interpersonal relationships- that the modernization process has brought with it and that are at the core of many of the urgent challenges in contemporary societies.
