Abstract
- This work analyzes the changes in internal flows of exportable soybeans, from the producing regions to ports, according to data regarding production and export of oilseeds in the 1996- 2009 period. The analysis of origin and destination was based on information provided by the Instituto Brasileiro de Geografia e Estatística (IBGE) and the Ministério do Desenvolvimento, Indústria e Comércio Exterior (MDIC/SECEX). The data revealed production increase in the Brazilian Midwest and Northeast Regions, and decreased participation from the South, resulting in logistical changes in soybean exports. It is possible to conclude that between 1996 and 2009 the distances between producing areas and ports increased, imposing high costs not only to producers but also to the state and society. The study also highlights that the decreased relative importance of Paranaguá in the period is explained by disadvantages in comparison with the port of Santos - access modes and distance from Midwest producers in particular. It is also possible to notice the role of private operators and the usage of exclusive terminals in the export operations carried out in new ports. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
