Abstract

The article focuses on a study aimed at the calculating the weaning duration in patients requiring prolonged mechanical ventilation and they are com-weaned at long-term acute care hospitals (LTACH). It states that the study was conducted in a hospital in Illinois. According to the study, patients when randomized to tracheostomy and then disconnected from the ventilator so that they can breathe through the tracheostomy then the weaning duration was interrupted. It further states that the weaning time between pressure support and tracheostomy collar was made using the log-rank test.
