Abstract
- The article reflects on the utility of Arthrobacter luteus (Alu) element, a short stretch of DNA, to study short interspersed nuclear elements (SINEs). It further discusses the importance of the ORF2 capsid protein slippage in maintaining active SINE source elements in primate lineages. It suggests that the A-tail expansion of Alu elements may explain the appearance of Alu stealth-driver elements in the orangutan genome.
