The article offers information on drinking water disinfection which helped in reducing cholera and typhoid epidemics in American cities. It discusses the treatment process including primary disinfection with ozone, ultraviolet (UV), or chlorine dioxide and secondary disinfection with chlorine or monochloramine, and highlights that many plants use expensive techniques such as reduction of chlorine disinfection byproducts (DBP). It also describes bromate mitigation strategies in brief.
