Abstract

The article focuses on research into the ecological effects of soot or black carbon. It states the "Journal of Geophysical Research: Atmospheres" published a comprehensive study of soot on January 15, 2013 which concluded soot was the second-most-damaging agent for global warming after carbon dioxide with a greater warming effect than methane. It comments on the health effects of soot and its impact on the melting of snow and ice which may explain why the Arctic is melting faster than expected.
