Abstract

The authors discuss the advantages and disadvantages of using antibiotics in recurrent urinary tract infection (UTI) prevention. They mention that the benefits of long-term antibiotics in reducing the risk of repeat symptomatic UTI in susceptible children is small, and that its relation to the increased risk of microbial resistance must also be considered. Moreover, they say that the benefits of using long-term antibiotics is greater from children with vesicoureteric reflux (VUR).
