Abstract

The article discusses the most noteworthy science stories of 2012. Topics include the discovery of a particle called the Higgs boson by physicists in Geneva, Switzerland on July 4, the landing of the U.S. National Aeronautics and Space Administration's (NASA's) Curiosity rover on the planet Mars on August 6, and two separate studies showing the ease at which avian influenza could be mutated to render it capable of airborne transmission in June.
