Abstract

The article discusses a literature review of cetaceans in Maldives. It says that 21 cetaceans species have been recorded using the sightings surveys and acoustic surveys. It states that the species most frequently seen is the spinner dolphin, Stenella longirostris and the commonly reported stranding is the sperm whale, Physeter macrocephalus. It also mentions that all cetacean species are protected by the law within the Maldivian waters, particularly net fishing. Moreover, cetacean-watching has been popularly increasing with the spinner dolphin as the main attraction.
