Abstract

The article reports on the approval of a legislative bill in Germany which legalizes infant male circumcision. It offers information on the law which was drafted after a regional court in Cologne ruled that circumcision amounts to bodily harm. It adds that the ruling triggered an outcry from Jews and Muslims who are still affected by the country's persecution of minorities during the Nazi period. It notes that Jews and Muslims consider circumcision as an entrance into a covenant with God.
