Abstract
- The article discusses a study assessing the association of red blood cell (RBC) transfusion volume and mortality among patients receiving extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO). ECMO indications are classified to cardiac, non cardiac and extracorporeal cardiopulmonary resuscitation (ECPR). Statistical analysis of the data is presented. The results report an independent increase in the risk of mortality among patients supported with ECMO indications, receiving greater volumes of RBC.
