Abstract

The article examines how health officials in India are working to prevent the spread of a drug-resistant strain of tuberculosis (TB) and Indian government officials' plan to distribute treatment for the disease for free. Topics include how widespread poverty in the country make it an ideal breeding ground for the disease, how countries like the U.S. and South Africa are working to improve their TB drugs in order to treat the new strain, and the World Health Organization's praise for India's plan.
