Abstract

The author discusses the use of the hierarchy of needs theory of the psychologist Abraham Maslow as a guide for decision making by business leaders, focusing on the "Transformation Pyramid" model that uses Maslow's theory to describe the needs of stakeholders in organizations. According to the author, businesses should view human nature positively, measure intangibles, practice transactional and transformational leadership, and focus on customer needs. Topics include the author's book "Peak: How Great Companies Get Their Mojo From Maslow" and employee motivation.
