Abstract

An interview with German writer Julia Franck is presented. When asked about the influence of personal family history on her literary works, Franck says family history has influenced her and formed the basis of her writing. She comments on why the mother figures in her novels are often cold and withdrawn. She discusses the role of mothers and women in today's German society.
