Abstract
- The article considers the operations of the coffee shop chain company Starbucks in China. The rapid expansion of Starbucks in China, especially in cities other than Beijing and Shanghai, is noted. Cultural challenges facing the company in marketing coffee in China are discussed, including the country's tradition of drinking tea, the relatively high prices of Starbucks beverages and resistance by male consumers. It is noted that Starbucks does almost no takeout business in China.
