Abstract

The article looks at an investigation of the planet Mars through the mineralogical, petrological, and geochemical analysis of the martian meteorite Tissint, which was discovered in Morocco in July 2011. Analysis of the meteorite revealed it to be a depleted picritic shergottite comprised of olivine-rich martian basaltic rock. Tissint also contained magnesian olivine and glass from the atmosphere of Mars and trace elements, sulfur, and fluorine from the planet surface. Other topics discussed include evidence of martian weathering, cosmic radiation exposure, and estimation of the meteorite's age and ejection from Mars.
