The article presents a critical overview of military ecology concepts, analyzing the concepts of military ecology and military ecosystem, and compares biological, industrial, and military ecologies. The author notes that as a response to the need for attention to be given to the environmental aspects of the defense-industrial complex and maintenance of the Russian Armed Forces in the 1990s, military ecology or military environmental science came to be.
