Abstract

This article takes St Mark at Lakenham, in Norwick, England, in order to explore religious and aesthetic aspects of the so called “Gothic Revival” on Victorian era. From field research performed in 2008 and 2010, it was possible to find traits in the church to understand this moment of European thoughts, especially a contradiction between the idea of rescuing a medieval past and the possibility of doing so: St Mark was built in 1844, but in gothic style; is covered with flit, a regional stone used in medieval churches, but its internal structure is of bricks, its furniture and adornment are made in order to look medieval, but adapted to XIX taste. The text approaches the subject by taking as basis the relation between Tractarian movement into XIX Anglicanism. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
