Abstract

The article discusses the physiological aspects of food addiction, with a focus on highly processed snack and junk foods which are high in carbohydrates. Topics include the theory that the brain responds to high-fat, high-calorie, low-nutrition foods in a way that is similar to the response for addictive substances or drugs; obesity research on the physiological aspects of overeating disorders; and the brain chemistry of food addiction.
