Abstract

The author argues that U.S. President Barack Obama should be re-elected in 2012, focusing on his support of science. He argues that scientific innovation is vital for the economic growth and competitiveness of the U.S., noting Obama's policies which increased investment in research, promoted science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) education, and worked to reduce climate change. Also noted are policy positions by Republican candidate Mitt Romney on research funding and health care.
