Abstract

Irritable bowel syndrome is one of the most frequent digestive disorder that faces the gastro-enterologist and the general practitioner - it has 1-2% incidence în worldwide population (2,3,14,19,22). It consists of abdominal pain or discomfort, accentuated by defecation or flatulence and frequency and consistence changes of the stools. There are no specific diagnostic test for IBS till this moment. That is why most of the times the diagnostic is actually differential based on excluding other diseases with the same simpthomatology. There are also clinical criteria, validated by cross- sectional or longitudinal trials (Roma III). New management of IBS appeared after observing the changes of the intestinal fecal microbiota and high frequency of IBS after gastro-intestinal infection. Also the observed immune disorder of the digestive system of the IBS patients and the fact that probitics have favourable effects on IBS, contributed to the new management of this disease.
