This article aims to analyze historically the experiences of foreign films dubbing for theatrical exhibition in Brazil in the first two decades after the coming of sound. The purpose is to clarify the debate around the dubbing from the artistic, technological and economical points of view, especially in relation to the Brazilian theatrical exhibition circuit and to the national cinema of that same time.
