Abstract
- A 1990 study of the Cree Indian inhabitants of eight communities in the Mushkegowuk region of the Hudson and James Bay lowland in northern Ontario shows the value of wildlife harvesting to the society in both monetary and cultural terms and suggests that it would be sustainable. This is important socially, economically, and biologically since the native population is resistant to mining nonrenewable resources, developing large-scale hydroelectric projects, and encouraging closer ties with the mainstream Canadian population.
