Abstract: The article discusses controversy over errant mapping software included in the iPhone 5 smartphone from Apple Inc. Customers have complained about incorrect location markers and flawed images. On September 28, 2012 Apple chief executive Tim Cook posted an open letter apologizing for the problem and suggesting alternative software. Executive chairman Eric Schmidt of Internet-search firm Google Inc., with whom Apple has a rivalry in the smartphone market, said Apple should have used Google's maps.
