Abstract

The article focuses on the medical policies in the United States. Some years ago, the health-care debate concerned U.S. President Bill Clinton's plan, which promised tax-assisted medical coverage to the public on a universal basis. But such a plan would have been very expensive. So the government added certain features to control spending. Among these were managed care and health-maintenance organizations. Republicans, conservatives, and free-market health-care personnel criticized Clinton's plan and its reliance on managed care.
