Abstract

The article focuses on a randomised controlled equivalence trial that was conducted to assess the benefit of clinically indicated catheter replacement to routine replacement. The trial recruited 3283 adults with an intravenous catheter of expected use from three hospitals in Queensland. The findings of the study indicate that peripheral intravenous catheters can be removed as clinically indicated to avoid associated discomfort.
