Abstract

Purpose – The purpose of this study is to propose an analytical approach based on the homotopy perturbation method (HPM) for solving the initial value problems associated with the Fornberg-Whitham type equations. Design/methodology/approach – In this paper, He's HPM is applied to Fornberg-Whitham equations. The procedure of the method is systematically illustrated. Findings – The results show that the HPM is a powerful mathematical tool to solving these equations, it is also a promising method to solve other nonlinear equations. Originality/value – The results show applicability, accuracy and efficiency of HPM in solving nonlinear differential equations. It is predicted that HPM can be widely applied in science and engineering problems. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
