Abstract

Kitab al-Falaha (Book ofAgriculture) was written by A bu Zakariya Yahya ibn Muhammad ibn Ahmad ibn Al-Awwam Al-Ishbili, who was a Andalusian agriculturist living in Seville about the end of the 12th century. Ibn al-Awwam's treatise is the most comprehensive medieval work on agriculture. He compiles all the knowledge of his time concerning agriculture, horticulture and animal husbandry. It was translated into Turkish by Muhammad ibn Moustafa in 1590. There isn't a rich tradition of such agricultural literature in the Ottoman Turkish period. Kitab al-falaha is therefore the main source for agriculture of Old Anatolian Turkish. In this article this important manuscript on agriculture is introduced. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
