THE ROLE OF GRAMMATICAL KNOWLEDGE IN READING FOR MEANING IN RUSSIAN.

The article discusses how English as a first language readers use grammatical knowledge to extract meaning when reading Russian informational texts. The author describes a study which revealed the various ways readers use and ignore grammar when reading texts for meaning. It is suggested that reading pedagogy needs to find ways of making readers more aware and attentive to the grammatical structure of the Russian language.
