Abstract

To uptake the good sprouting of seed tuber is one of the ways to get the better potato yields, which define the quantity of shoot per plant and area. The objective of this research was to evaluate the effect of tuber shoot number on potato yield (Solanum tuberosum L.) variety Cal White. The experiment was carried out in agricultural grange "Alabarrán" belong to Empresa de Cultivos Varios "Valle del Yabú" on Fersialitic Carbonated Brown Soil in december the 23 of 2010, using at random block design. The plantation was arranged at 0.28 x 0.90 m between plants and rows and using middle size of seed tuber (60-80g of weight). The experience consisted in evaluated growth and yield of potatoes plants witch seed tuber had from one to four shoots per tuber seed. Were determined steam height and diameter, leaves area, and dry weight of total organs, as soon as some growth indexes as net assimilation rate (NAR), relative growth rate (RGR) and leaf area ratio (LAR). Yield per plant and its quality were evaluated on harvest through quantity and media marketable tuber size. The marketable yield of those plants with three and four steams do not differed, though the plants with three steams produced bigger tuber. The increasing of steam number per plant enlarged quantity of tuber, but reduced tuber size. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
