Abstract
- The author responds to the article "What's the Oldest Hebrew Inscription?" by Christopher Rollston in the May/June 2012 issue. The author suggests that Rollston does not express caution in his methodology of analyzing inscriptions, including an ostracon found at the Khirbet Qeiyafa site. The author describes the four inscriptions discussed by Rollston and suggests that they reveal information about an early phase of the Hebrew language from the Iron Age, while Rollston argues that they are not Hebrew.
