Abstract

The article discusses the case of a 19-year-old woman with severe Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) encephalitis and raised intracranial pressure requiring decompressive craniectomy is described. She was treated with corticosteroids and acyclovir, was critically unwell for 3 weeks, requiring artificial ventilation but eventually made a good recovery. This case proves that EBV can be a causative agent of encephalitis and can be relieved by craniectomy and corticosteroids in selected cases.
