We describe an activity realized within the Programa de Préiniciação Científica da USP, where two students of a secondary school (CM and DMS) visited during one year the Astronomy Department of IAG, USP, to develop a scientific project looking for "doubles" of the Milky Way galaxy, under the supervision of a teacher (LSJ) and a PhD student (WASJ).
