Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder (PMDD) and bipolarity.

Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder (PMDD) and bipolarity expanded to a broad spectrum are both two new fashionable clinical entities. First, PMDD has been recently recognized and extracted from the global premenstrual disorder. Second, new research is challenging conservative rates for bipolar disorder in light of a broader concept involving at the one extreme psychotic states, and at the other cyclic mood disorders with minor sub-syndromal affective dysregulations. From a clinical case report and the review of current research studies in this domain, new preliminary hypotheses will be discussed, especially about the comorbidity between bipolar disorders and PMDD. We suggest that a soft bipolar disorder could be hidden behind a PMDD (or the reverse) and raises important therapeutic questions: Are selective serotoninergic inhibitors likely to worsen this disorder?
