Abstract

This study includes the determination of the liquefaction potential developed for the residentail area covered by alluvial deposits using SPT (Standard Penetration Test) data under the effect of the probable earthquake effect in Tuzla (Adana-Karataş) District. For this reason, two borehole data were evaluated. Karataş Osmaniye Fault Zone was a length of 110 km in length and approximately passes through in a distance of 5 km in the west of the study area (Tuzla District). It was predicated to affect the region and create the biggest peak horizontal acceleration due to earthquake. In a probable earthquake effect, it was calculated an earthquake of moment magnitude as MW=7, considering that Karataş Osmaniye Fault Zone may be cracked 1/2 of the total length. Using attenuation relationships developed for Turkey a peak ground acceleration of 0.3 g was calculated for the study site. According to the these results, the liquefaction analysis was performed using the SPT data and two locations were determined as liquefiable. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
