Magnetic studies in <f>Ce1−xUxPd3(0&les;x&les;0.3)</f> alloys

Abstract

We present bulk magnetization and &lt;f&gt;140&lt;/f&gt;Ce local susceptibility (&lt;f&gt;χloc&lt;/f&gt;) results for the alloy series &lt;f&gt;Ce1−xUxPd3&lt;/f&gt;. The compounds upto &lt;f&gt;x=0.3&lt;/f&gt; form in single phase with &lt;f&gt;AuCu3&lt;/f&gt; type FCC crystal structure. With increasing U content, the alloys show higher effective magnetic moment (&lt;f&gt;μeff&lt;/f&gt;) and smaller (&lt;f&gt;θP&lt;/f&gt;) values. The &lt;f&gt;χloc&lt;/f&gt; data reveal large reduction of Ce Kondo temperature with U concentration. We believe, interaction between Ce-4f and U-5f band electrons play an important role on the magnetic behaviour of these alloys. [Copyright &amp;y&amp; Elsevier]
