An Assessment of Public Library Services in North Eastern Nigeria.

This article discusses a study on the assessment of the public library system and services in the six states of North Eastern Nigeria. Topics include the role that public libraries play in societal development, the history of public libraries in Northern Nigeria from the establishment of the Native Authority (N.A.) reading rooms in the 1940s to the decentralization of the Regional Library System under political turmoil, and a discussion of the existence of Library Boards and the distribution and infrastructure among the split public library systems of the Northern states.
