Abstract

The article discusses the patterns of sexual transgression and gender in the web-based reality show "The Specials," which the publication "The Guardian" calls a docusoap. It states that the show is a story of white young adults who have intellectual disabilities and live together in Brighton, England. It says that web developer Daniel May and producer-director Katy Lock continued the series in 2009 even without institutional support and funding. It engages with the observation by writer Margrit Shildrick that interweaving of subjectivity, sexuality, and disability constitutes a risky combination. It mentions that the show was originally conceived as a television broadcast reality show.
