The Old Testament "Apocrypha" in Jerome's Canonical Theory.

The article highlights the Jerome's canonical view on apocrypha. In Prologus Galeatus, Jerome explained that the structure of the Jewish biblical canon was done so to make it easier to classify books that belong to the apocrypha, which according to him includes the Wisdom of Solomon, Sirach and the Shepherd of Hermas. H. H. Howorth and other scholars do agree that Jerome's acceptance of a wider canon shows his approval of the so-called LXX-canon. Jerome associated the term apocrypha to that of the Ascension of Isaiah and the Apocalypse of Elijah, which are both classified as ravings of apocrypha.
